ABSTRACT
Among bacterial diseases occurring in children, Mycoplasma pneumoniae infection remains a diagnostic challenge due to its varied clinical presentation. Its most common manifestation is atypical pneumonia, with a mild course and persistent dry cough. Detection of the pathogen is based on immunological methods and polymerase chain reaction (PCR) testing. A chest X-ray may also be helpful. Infection can lead to severe complications in many organs, especially in children and elderly individuals. Non-obvious laboratory and imaging findings and the increasing resistance of bacteria to antibiotics make it increasingly challenging to treat effectively and quickly. This work aims to show several cases of Mycoplasma pneumoniae infection in pediatric patients who developed myocarditis, meningitis, or Stevens-Johnson syndrome in the course of or as a result of the disease.
